Solicitor (Clinical Negligence / Personal Injury) 0-2 years PQE

Our Clinical Negligence team at Mayo Wynne Baxter is one of the most reputable and distinguished in the UK, and is seeking an experienced and competent Solicitor to join its busy team. The position would be based in our Lewes office but with travel to other offices when required.

Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will ideally have some experience working within a Clinical Negligence department and be competent in all aspects of supporting or managing their own caseload. With a passion for using your technical expertise along with your outstanding communication and client care skills, you will take pride in delivering a high level legal service to our clients You will need to be confident in working alone and the ability to use own initiative when required with minimum supervision.
You will have the confidence and ability to take appropriate decisions on cases to ensure swift progression and have excellent knowledge relating to personal injury/clinical negligence and the civil litigation process. To ensure your success in this role, you will be given support and coaching to help develop your career.

You will be expected to have good marketing and networking skills so as to be able to take a leading role in promoting the Firm’s services to business clients (both existing and prospective), contacts and referrers.

Key tasks:

• To ensure that all client work is processed correctly and expeditiously and that the client is kept regularly informed of progress and costs
• At all times to exercise high standards of client care in a professional and pleasant manner
• To comply with Solicitors Accounts Rules and the Rules on the Professional Conduct of Solicitors
• To ensure the confidentiality and security of all the firm’s and client documentation and information
• To achieve agreed levels of billing and time recording
• In close liaison with the Credit Controller, to have overall responsibility for credit control on own matters
• To maintain clear and precise communications with other personnel of the firm
• To ensure good working relationships with external institutions and organisations
• In conjunction with the firm, to take responsibility for and attend to self-development
• In conjunction with the firm, to comply with the relevant training requirements of the Law Society and to assist with in-house training as may be required
• In liaison with Head of Department and other Partners, to be active in promoting the services of the firm and its image and ethos

People Management Responsibilities:

To provide training, coaching and learning opportunities as appropriate for new and existing members of the team
• To monitor workloads, performance and compliance with the firm’s procedures
• To motivate team members to achieve excellent performance and seek their input to improvements in the way we work
• To ensure excellent communication with individuals and across the team
• To conduct performance reviews and probationary reviews as required and to follow up any issues arising from this activity
• To deal with any other day to day Supervisory issues that may arise

Knowledge, Skills and behavior required (person spec):

• Admission to the Solicitors Roll
• 0-2 years experience in personal injury/clinical negligence and the civil litigation process
• Competence in relevant work area
• Competent in the firm’s computer facilities and other systems as appropriate
• High standard of interpersonal and communication skills, especially in the context of client care and staff relationships
• Pleasant and positive manner in dealing with colleagues, clients and team members
• Flexibility and willingness to provide support as required to Partners and staff within the office
• Ability to plan, organise and delegate to achieve the team’s workload
• Consistency in approach to work, managing staff issues and developing others
• Ability to be a positive role model and lead the team by example

Working hours

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm
