    This intermediate level course is aimed at lawyers with some existing management responsibilities within their firms (e.g. for other people, for profitability and/or for business development). Building upon areas dealt with in Management Course Stage 1, the aim of the course is to examine the core management topics in a practical way, which will assist delegates to develop their management skills once they return to their roles. Management Roles • Understanding management roles in law firms • Line management (lawyers) vs. ‘professional management’ • Key responsibilities of ‘lawyer managers’ Finance & Profitability • Managing the drivers of profitability • How ‘people issues’ influence profitability • Targets & budgets – preparation, selling to staff, and review People Management • Understanding leadership- how to develop leadership skills • Managing teams & groups – including communication coaching, development & delegation and performance management
